I have been making jewelry since 1987. The name "Sun Lotus Jewelry & Art" came from my love of art and Buddhism. Nichiren, translated, is "Sun Lotus," which I think is a beautiful image.

In 1993, during a morning toso (chanting session), my area leader, Mrs. Walters, told me to start making juzu like the necklaces I was wearing (which I had made). After considering the idea, I studied a set I had and came up with a method for making juzu. Incidentally, I looked up the translation of juzu, and it is prayer beads; so juzu beads is redundant.

Through trial and error, I created a sturdy design that maintains the integrity of the symbolism of juzu as used in Nichiren Buddhism.

A close friend, Jan Tracy, designed the wrapped marbles on the ends that I use to replace the pompoms.

I love making juzu. Each set is unique, and I admire each one. Click here to view some pictures of juzu I've made. I chant with each set before sending it. I have created a "Care of Your Juzu" page. You can download a pdf.

I've sent orders all over the country and to the UK, Italy, Canada, Brazil, India, Kuwait (yes, there is a small network of members in Kuwait, email me for their contact info!), and Spain. Click here to view some comments from people who have ordered custom-made juzu from me.

I have been a member of the Soka Gakkai International since 1983. Buddhism is home to me; I trust Ikeda Sensei as I trust Nichiren Daishonin.

FRAUD WARNING: Cashier's checks are no longer automatically safe to cash. Many banks will not verify their validity before cashing. It is now a common thing to receive a fraudulent cashier's check. If your bank will not verify a cashier's check, look online for the bank it's drawn on and call them yourself. Washington Mutual Bank considers it the customer's responsibility to verify their own cashier's checks. They will not protect you. Ask your bank about that. If that is a service they do not provide, consider changing banks. Will your bank protect you from fraud?

I asked Washington Mutual to verify a cashier's check of which I was suspicious. They released the funds immediately. It was returned counterfeit, but they consider that my negligence.

If a Nigerian, someone from United Arab... thingy, South Africa, Ghana, et. al., offers to buy something you are selling online, don't respond. If anyone overseas offers to buy something you are selling online, do not take it for granted. Look online to read all the horror stories. This is not racist, and if you think it is, talk to me.

And the number one thing to keep in mind: if something looks good, but inside doesn't feel right, go with that feeling. If I had gone with that feeling, I would have lost a chance to be scammed, not a chance to make money!
